Menjadi seorang narasumber tetap dalam sebuah talkshow radio yang membahas tentang pengembangan SDM, saya sering mendapatkan pertanyaan atau curhat dari pendengar yang isinya tentang karir yang tidak naik-naik. Atau atasan yang seenaknya. Ada juga lingkungan kerja yang tidak nyaman dan masih banyak lagi cerita kondisi yang membuat dirinya tidak segera menjadi cemerlang.
Setelah menggali lebih dalam lagi dari para penanya melalui beberapa pertanyaan klarifikasi; ternyata memang benar bahwa karirnya tidak naik walaupun ia telah bekerja belasan tahun. Memang benar bahwa perilaku atasannya seenaknya saja. Dan juga benar lingkungan kerjanya tidak nyaman.
Pertanyaan saya adalah apakah karena hal-hal tersebut di atas lalu seluruh kehidupan orang tersebut seolah-olah berhenti dan ia tidak memiliki lagi jalan keluar untuk menyelesaikan masalah tersebut?

Suatu ketika saat saya belajar untuk menjadi trainer dari Zig Ziglar, Krish Dhanam, Global ambasaddor dari Zig Ziglar bercerita kepada saya bahwa orang yang dianggap sukses adalah bila dia bukan hanya sukses dipekerjaannya saja tetapi juga sukses dirumah tangganya. Juga dia pernah berucap, bahwa dia mempunyai sebuah kebiasaan yang indah walaupun dia sering keluar kota bahkan keluar negeri tetap saja dia berbicara kepada istri serta anaknya. Bahkan dia selalu mengucapkan I love you setiap selesai pembicaraan di skype.
Saat saya tanya, apakah dia selalu mengucapkan i love you setiap hari? Dia katakan iya, lalu dia bercerita kepada saya kenapa terjadinya sebuah perselingkuhan. Bisa jadi karena pasangan kita kurang mendapatkan kata atau ucapan sayang dari pasangannya.
Berbeda saat pacaran dulu mungkin akan berhamburan kata sayang atau cinta. Tetapisaat menikah … duhhhh beda banget. Dan ada satu kata dari dia yang cukup bagus, kalau anda tidak mengucapkan kata sayang atau cinta maka suatu saat bisa saja tangki cinta dia akan kosong. Na bila tangki cintanya kosong maka bisa jadi ada orang lain yang mengisinya dengan cara mengatakan cinta. Apakah itu sama saja dengan tidak berabe? Gimana kalau akhirnya dia menangapi kata cinta tadi? Wuihhhhh ….. sudah tahu akhir ceritanya bukan J

Saya teringat kembali akan sebuah percakapan singkat di hari pertama bekerja. Ada sebuah pertanyaan yang saya tanyakan kepada rekan kerja saya yang duduk di meja sebelah.
“Sudah berapa lama mba bekerja di sini?” “Dua tahun”, jawabnya. Kemudian spontan saya menyelutuk,“Sudah lama juga, ya” dan dibalas oleh rekan kerja saya itu “Wah belum seberapa. Itu Mba X sudah 9 tahun di sini”.
Waktu itu saya berpikir, orang-orang yang jauh lebih senior saja masih duduk di level yang sama dengan saya. Bagaimana dengan saya yang anak kemarin sore hanya bermodallkan ijasah SMA? Bagaimana dengan karir saya nanti? Ah, nanti dululah.
